Manuelle redningsveste

When is it better to buy a manual life jacket?

A manual inflatable life jacket offers water sports enthusiasts control over their safety in the water. A life jacket with a manual trigger does not release when in contact with water or splashing water - the buoyancy chamber is inflated by simply pulling a manual release cord. A manual release life jacket is thus perfect for canoeing, SUPs, kayaking, dinghying or waterskiing. Semi-automatic life jackets are also popular for use in regatta sailing and motorboating, as they offer athletes the flexibility to activate the jacket only in emergency situations to ensure their safety. This makes them a practical accessory for amateur and professional athletes alike.

What is the advantage of manually activated life jackets?

A manual life jacket is recommended for all sports where constant contact with water or water spray could result in the unintentional triggering of a fully automatic life jacket. This is irritating, because once the automatic trigger is activated, it can no longer be stopped. The CO2 cartridge and trigger mechanism must then be replaced before the jacket can be used again. False activation due to accidental contact with water can thus be avoided, as you are responsible for ensuring that your lifejacket is triggered manually.

How are manual life jackets put on correctly?

Manual lifejackets are easy and uncomplicated to put on. It is important to pull the semi-automatic lifejacket over your head first. You should make sure that it sits firmly on your body. Thanks to the adjustable straps around the waist and chest, you can prevent them from slipping. Once the jacket is correctly positioned, the straps are tightened and all fasteners and buckles are properly closed. Please ensure that your manual lifejacket must not be too loose, as this can impair its functionality in the water.

You can find more information and detailed instructions in our tutorial video:

What is the difference between manual and automatic life jackets?

Manual life jackets do not have an automatic release system as is the case with automatic life jackets. This means that semi-automatic life jackets do not trigger automatically when water touches them and must be activated manually when needed.

We show you the difference between the two types in our life jacket video.
